analysis of my block designs

Analysis of block designs

Overall my block designs are different in there own way like design 1 I like the border idea due to it would make the magazine stand out and also I like how the secondary features are in columns at the side so they much neater than them scattered all over. However the negatives, is having the masthead at the top is not very unique and wouldn’t make my magazine have an edge.

Design 2-I like the idea of having the main image cover the whole cover this would grab people’s attention then just having it at the side. Furthermore, I like the idea of a collage of pictures to show everyone what is featured in the whole magazine than just a main image. However, the negatives is having the masthead across the magazine I wanted to experiment and make it different as I stated in design one however this position of my masthead is that It will get in the way of my main image and would make my magazine look messy which I don’t want.

Design 3-The positives of this design is that I like how the main image and columns are side by side making it look more organised I like the idea of having pictures behind one of the secondary features at the bottom due to many magazines don’t really make one secondary feature an importance and usually have the secondary features all crammed at the side subsequently by making the secondary features stand out it will give it a competitive edge. However, by having one of the secondary features at the bottom it could get people confused on which one is the main headline and the main headline would be in the columns so maybe I may rearrange the two of them to aluminates this confusion.

Design 4-This is my least favourite design due to everything is cramped on the page not giving the expensive look I wanted due to the main image is at an angle overlapping my masthead making it look scruffy and the secondary features are all crammed at the bottom. However, im glad I experimented and my favourite bit of this design is having the masthead at the side due to it gives it an edge and makes it stand out.

Design 5-Overall this is my favourite design due to I love how the title (masthead) is the border of the magazine making it really stand out and the repartition of the name will get stuck in peoples head. I like the main image story having its own section at the bottom and the secondary features and the side to show the distinguish difference between them. However the only downfall is the barcode is at the side and is pretty big however to amend this problem I will try and make it smaller.

overall conclusion on the whole project

How does your finished prodct compare to your design?
overall, when looking at my design layout i changed some elements like where diffrent articles goes and changing some of the colour scheme but overall i feel my finished product is quite simular to may design shown in my blog.

How has technology,(computer, digital, printer)helped you turn your design into a real product?

overall, technology has palyed a big role in making my prodct come alive by using phot shop it had diffrent elements and tools i could use to make my product look like a excisting magazine and enabled me to choose from a range of fonts and colours.Furthermore the camera was used to take professional pictures which would be the process in excisting magaiznes and really make my visio into a reality.

Do you feel that yout product is suitable for your target audience?

Overall, when looking at my final magazine cover i feel it is a young elegant and slick magazine cover which covers young adults intrests so overall i feel it meets with my targt audience which was young adults.

Describe two challenges you have overcome?

The two challenges i had to overcome in this project, is learning how to use photoshop which i said above was vital in making my magazine and subsequently i now have a life long skill which will help me in other projects simular to this; and i will be able to construct what i need in photoshop in a smaller amount of time.

The second challenge i overcome was learning how to analyse magazine covers with the correct terms and how to analyse them in detail due to i needed to know what to include in my magazine and also get an idea on what i wanted my magazine to be like, and by overcoming this and learning the techinal terms and analysis i subsequenty new what i needed to include in the type of magazine i wanted to do and get a better grip on what the techincal terms were sunsequently resulting in me having a better final magazine cover due to this knowledge.

Describe the technical skills you have gained?

The technical skills i have gained, is how to copy an image onto photoshop which involves me opening a new photoshop document and copying it from there and enlarging it but for it not to go blurrey i learned to use the lock button which made the image high definiton.

Seondaly i learnt how to rotate and arrange text in photoshop and how to write text in photshop by using the T button.

excel spreadsheet on my questionnaire analysis of my final magazine cover

I used an excel spreadsheet to analyse my results from my questionnaire which was about my final magazine cover design. Firstly, overall the age range which came top overall was young adults ranging from 20-30 this matches with the age range i wanted to achieve due to the young adults are the people who would pay a larger amount of money to buy my magazine then say a teenager. Overall, the feedback from my secondary features were mainly positive people mainly ticked yes due to they liked the range of different secondary features and the uniquness of all of them and would appeal to a wide variety of people they liked that i included cooking, holidays, fashion and fashion fopars which was my version of classier gossip however to improve people said that i could include more about the new in trends and how to get a classy look at a lower price i may include this but it may again cheapen my magazine. When looking at the layout and colour scheme feedback lots of people liked the range of colour due to i decided to add purple aswell due to it complimented the picture however in the end i didnt put the main feature headline at the bottom due to i thought it would take away focus from the main image;also they liked how the name was bordering the magazine they said i framed the picture and mae it stand oyut from other magazines and overall due to not haveing tacky colours and tacky affects e.g. a pug they thought it looked very expensive which was what i wanted to achieve.I had postive feedback about the name for my magazine and the font due to they like the uniqness and the font which i changed from my orginal idead due to it gave it more elegance really caught there attention the only critcism is that maybe when bordering the name around the magazine each name could have a diffrent fobnt to give uit a uniqye twist however i feel that would make my magazine more tacky.Furthemore, they rated my magazine of the price between £2-4 they said its reasonable due to the wuality of the magaizne, and they liked the idea of the first isssue having a special price due to they feel it will draw people in so my special price could be £2.50 subvsequntly more people will buy it giving it a bigger profuit to start with and then more people will get to know the magazine make. And lastly, they liked my main image due to they like that its a close up due to you can see who its talking about and the image looks like its beeen professionally taken so this makes my magaizne worthey of a higher price and they liekd how it matched the colour scheme and also that i used a well known celebritiy than someone people dont know this could boost my sellings.

analysis of my questionnaire on task 4-6

When looking through the questionnaires I can see for the first question more females then males answered my questionnaire so it would seem many girls would like my magazine however I need to think about if more boys did this questionnaire what would be their response. Secondly the average age was 20-30 who answered my magazine so I need to take in to consideration them as my main target market so I need to thin k about the main features and secondary features that would appeal to them. The majority of people preferred gossip and fashion so in my magazine which is based on fashion I need to include gossip but due to it being of higher quality maybe not to much to not be like cheaper magazines. People would pay £2-£4 for a regular magazine so I need to think when pricing what would be the best price maybe a special price for the first issue to attract readers. Then I asked what they expected of a high end fashion magazine i.e. layout, what it included my findings showed many said it had to not have a tacky layout and it had to look expensive and eye-catching e.g. colours, pictures. The features inside they expected to include lots of pictures and interesting articles on fahsion, gossip, travel and catering these specific things I need to think about when creating my magazine. However for the fonts and name I showed the names which I thought of and the font also though I gave them a box for any other suggestions on names and fonts the majority preferred the name schuh and they suggested the font Lucida Calligraphy which I really liked and gave it an edge and complimented my picture. Furthermore the layouts, which they preferred, consist of the title becoming the border and the secondary features at the side of the main image and the main image headline ne at the bottom. The best colour scheme was pink and white so I need to intertwine this with my magazine.

printing methods -what i think they can be used for

In this post, I have listed the printing methods, I would use for each one after analysing five types of printing method.

A high status invitation card for prizewinners and important guests-

The printing method I would use, is letterpress;because it is used for special occasions, such as the art and music award ceremony. Furthermore it takes time (slow process) and precision and alot of effort and craftsmanship for each individual one unlike if it was offset litho which wouldn’t take long also for it to be high status the printing is very expensive due to the time and skill needed to make it look perfect such as lining the letter press making the letters and machinery (letterpress) and ink. Furthermore the end quality is of a high quality and would fit with the aim of a high status invitation. Lastly I would need to make a few because not every one is a prizewinners or a special guest.

A running order sheet for everyone who attends-

The printing methods, I would use is offset litho because its efficient, cheap, and relatively easy this would tie in with my aim because we need a lot of invitations done very fast to get them out also you couldn’t use letterpress because it is very expensive and this is very cheap unlike the other printing methods. Furthermore why it may be cheap is because we don’t need may people to do it (work the machines) and doesn’t take much skill because the machines do most of the work and they can work 24/7 the process the machines do is the ink duct roller machine this delivers ink from the ink duct to the ink pyramid. Also Called the 'Ink Train’. The ductor roller, sometimes called a vibrator roller due to its rapid back and forth motion, transfers ink from the duct roller to the first distribution roller. It is never in contact with both rollers at the same time.
The distribution rollers evenly distribute the ink. The first distribution roller picks up the ink from driving rollers, and the last distribution rollers transfer the ink to the form rollers.
The transfer rollers transfer ink between the ink-absorbing and ink-delivering driving rollers.
Driving rollers roll against the distribution rollers and either absorb or deliver ink, depending on their placement.
Ink form rollers transfer ink from the last distribution rollers on to the printing plate.
The printing plate transfers the ink to the offset cylinder (typically called blanket cylinder) usually covered with a rubber 'blanket'.
The paper is then pressed against the blanket cylinder by the impression cylinder, transferring the ink onto the paper to form the printed image so less time is needed for precision however the end result may not be as good due to the quickness and not putting much effort or workmanship and precisions and time in unlike intaglio letter press however litho the machinery is reasonably cheap as well for the amount your getting. later I will need to make around 100 or more due to all the parents who are coming;Making this a cheaper method which fits perfectly with the

An arty stylish poster for the event-

The last method I would use for posters for the event would be lithography originally used an image drawn in wax or other oily substance applied to a lithographic stone as the medium to transfer ink to the printed sheet. In modern times, the image is often made of polymer applied to a flexible aluminum plate. The flat surface of the plate or stone is slightly roughened, or etched, and divided into hydrophilic regions that accept a film of water and thereby repel the greasy ink, and hydrophobic regions that repel water and accept ink because the surface tension is higher on the greasier image area which remains dry. The image may be printed directly from the stone or plate (in which case it is reversed from the original image) or may be offset by transfer to a flexible sheet, usually rubber, for transfer to the printed article.
This process,is different from gravure or intaglio printing where a plate is engraved, etched or stippled to make cavities to contain the printing ink, and in woodblock printing and letterpress where ink is applied to the raised surfaces of letters or images. Furthermore many artists use this technique so it would be perfect to create an attractive and eye catching poster. Also it cost is in the middle however, the quality of the finish product is worth it if you want to attract people to come. Also the machinery cost is in the middle so that my affect its prize however its cheaper than intaglio and letterpress. I would need to make around 50 to pit around the schools people can see e.g. toilets, classrooms, hallway etc

Analyse of TV magazines

Wednesday, 9 March 2011

The most popular tv listings magazine is tv chocice this may be due to it cheaper than others meaning its more affordable for a variety of people. furthermore it covers lots of channels for a cheaper price.howver it still is cramped but thats what you get with a very cheap magazine and also the cover is bright and tacky with the price being emphasis drawing readers and how its all being cramped on meaning it would fall under the cheaper magazine.

The second most popular tv listining magazine is what's on TV its the second cheapest so this would still appeal to alot of people. Also this has a fairly good layout also Low-priced and good for Freeview viewers and soap-lovers howver it has a tacky cover indivating a cheaper magazine.

The third most popular magazine is radio times im suprise about this because it cost £1.10 even though of its hefty price many people buy it this may be the more middle and upper class type of magazine. furthermore the layout and front cover are layerd more sphisticated and many people would what a high quality magzine.

The fourth most populast tv listings magazine is take a break this is more expensive than the other to at 80p this may effect its buyer due to it being more expensive more people would rather spend less and buy the other two magazines.also there is more inside so more value for money and the layout and front cover is much more posher than the top 2 selling magazines bring in a more posher audience.

the fith most populast magazine is  saga magazine priced and £1.20 the cover is much more sophistcated and would appeal to an older genration due to the people they have on the cover e.g. twiggy etc however more old people wouldnt want to spend lots on a magazine due to bills etc unlike younger people who have more money to spend.Furthermore there is alot of context inside making it worht its money which would appeal to many people.

now going to the bottom three which are the least selling they go in this order :

number 98-Ben 10 this maybe due to it appeals to a  small age range and wouldnt appeal to older kids also the parents would have to be the one to by it also it cost £4.00 due to the free toy would be to hefty to buy each week for there child.

number 99 - Q magaizine is at a heft £2.50 this must paly a roll in is rnking because many people cant afford it.

the last one is 100 national enquirer many people would not what to  read it due to its high price for such a tacky mmagaizne with rubbish untrue stories.

To conclude looking at my findings i see the cheaper more tacky magazines are the best seller due to is good contents for such a cheap price which many can afford. furthermore thre more low ranking magzines are the more expensive and which cover a small majority of people.
